Workshops play an integral part of the learning process for all of my students and serve a variety of functions. Students benefit from listening to one another perform works-in-progress in preparation for examinations, recitals, and other performances. Finding themselves as both performer and listener, students learn how to offer and receive constructive criticism in a positive and supportive atmosphere. The musical terminology that they hear from me in their own lessons may vary greatly from the vocabulary that I use for another student. They are encouraged to comment on the performances of their peers. This sort of critical thinking challenges them to find the proper words to express their ideas and will serve them well on their own musical journey.
